A D2L Brightspace Case Study
The University of Central Oklahoma faced the challenge of preparing faculty to deliver high-quality online learning as its digital course offerings grew. To build confidence, improve course design, and strengthen student engagement and retention, UCO used D2L Brightspace as the learning management system for its eLearning Facilitation Certification Workshop (eLFC) and related faculty development efforts.
With D2L Brightspace, UCO implemented a structured yet flexible training program that let faculty learn in a practice shell, collaborate through discussions and knowledge checks, and experience online learning from a student perspective. The results were strong: over 85% of active online faculty completed recertification, 57% of faculty earned micro-credential badges, and Drop, Fail, and Withdrawal rates fell 3% in fully online courses and 6% in hybrid courses from 2020 to 2024, alongside four straight years of improvement in Newsweek’s America’s Top Online Colleges ranking.
