A D2L Brightspace Case Study
Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa’s largest residential university with about 65,000 students a year, needed a new way to deliver consistent learning online and in the classroom. Its 24-year-old LMS could no longer fully support blended, mobile-friendly learning for students on and off campus, and TUT also wanted better analytics to understand student progress and identify those at risk. D2L Brightspace was selected as the learning platform to meet these academic, technical, and user requirements.
D2L Brightspace helped TUT launch a more unified digital learning experience, with implementation starting in 2020 and first modules live in January 2021. By year-end, 5,000 modules were available in the platform, supported by training for students and staff, mobile access via Brightspace Pulse, and tools for assessments, collaboration, and analytics. The results were strong: 71.20% of students said logging in was easy, 78% found announcements useful, and 79.15% of staff said modules were easy to access. D2L Brightspace also gave TUT new visibility into student performance, helping it support retention and plan future predictive analytics.
