Transforming Learning Inside and Outside of the Classroom

Gwinnett County Public Schools, a K–12 district of 134 schools serving 176,000 students and 12,000 teachers, launched a district-wide initiative in 2009 to infuse technology. The district aimed to increase student engagement with blended learning, help teachers differentiate instruction for individual student needs, and extend learning beyond the classroom.

Working with D2L, Gwinnett built eCLASS on the Brightspace platform and used D2L’s technical account services to develop and implement an adoption strategy, going live in six weeks. Within a year teacher weekly access to course pages rose from under 50% to 80% and student weekly access climbed from 30% to 75%, with widespread use of tools like Dropbox and Discussions to support ongoing learning.
