Surrey School District, the largest district in British Columbia, faced rapid enrollment growth and needed to onboard new teachers quickly while delivering mandatory training and professional development more effectively. Traditional in-person sessions were hard to schedule, difficult to standardize, and could not be easily revisited, creating challenges for staff busy with classroom timetables. D2L Brightspace was chosen to support the district’s move to online staff training.

Using D2L Brightspace, Surrey School District built digital onboarding and professional learning courses, with 13 training programs already piloted across the district and portfolios being tested for school leaders. The solution improved efficiency, standardized training across schools, and allowed staff to complete courses at convenient times while keeping materials available online for review. The district reported faster and more efficient onboarding, easier resource-sharing, and a scalable foundation for future growth.
