Smith School of Business re-engaged faculty & cut back on administrative burden

Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business was spending too much time maintaining its in-house learning management system, leaving little room for innovation or faculty-requested improvements. With D2L Brightspace, the school needed a more flexible platform that could reduce administrative burden and better support a high-touch student experience.

D2L Brightspace, including its Valence API, enabled the IT team to build custom tools that automated major workflows such as assignment cover-page creation and bulk photo uploads. The results were significant: tasks that once took hours were reduced to minutes, one process saved up to two days of administrative work, faculty re-engaged with IT for new ideas, and the solution was so successful that all academic programs in the School of Business adopted Brightspace within two years.
