Case Study: Riverland Community College increases flexible enrollment and student success with D2L Brightspace

Riverland Community College is providing working adults with flexible education options

Riverland Community College needed a more flexible way to help working adults earn degrees while balancing jobs, families, and other responsibilities. To address this challenge, the college used D2L Brightspace as the learning management system for its FlexPace program, a competency-based online business education model designed for mature students.

Using D2L Brightspace, Riverland Community College created short six-week courses, personalized learning pathways, and mastery-based progress checks with tools like release conditions, intelligent agents, competencies, checklists, and gradebook features. The results included 85% retention, 90–95% student completion within the expected timeframe, and a 115% increase in Business Certificate Program enrollment, surpassing the original 50% growth goal.
