Michigan Virtual boosts assignment completion 3.8% with D2L Brightspace

Michigan Virtual, a provider of online learning for middle and high school students, faced a challenge with its flexible asynchronous courses. Many students struggled with time management and understanding their progress, which often led to last-minute work and lower performance. They partnered with the vendor D2L to address this within their Brightspace platform.

The solution, developed with D2L's Custom Development team, was the Brightspace-based Student Pacing Tool. This tool provided personalized due dates and real-time progress guidance for each student. The results showed improved student engagement, with an increase of approximately two assignments submitted per student and a 3.8% rise in assignment completion. D2L's solution also shortened the average submission delay and contributed to a statistically significant improvement in final grades.
