Leveling the Learning Playing Field Advancing Member Certification with Online Learning

The Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA), a professional body with about 9,370 members, faced rising costs and limited accessibility from its largely conference-based certification and continuing-education offerings. IMCA needed a more affordable, flexible way to help members prepare for CIMA and CPWA credentials and to reach prospective members without the time and travel burdens of traditional programs.

IMCA migrated its Candidate Resource Center and e‑Campus to the Brightspace Employee Learning and Development platform, using video, quizzes, Brightspace Capture, and an “ask the expert” discussion feature to deliver self-directed, quickly updatable courseware. Within 18 months roughly 1,800 members were using Brightspace, about 50% of IMCA’s curriculum was online, the Fundamentals of Alternative Investments course had ~400 learners (one-third non‑members, creating a prospect pipeline), and non-members can take key courses at about one-third the cost of conference-based programs.
