Kaplan Financial, the UK division of Kaplan Incorporated that trains over 45,000 learners annually in accountancy qualifications, wanted to improve exam pass rates for working professionals. The organization faced the challenge of enhancing the learning experience, encouraging consistent study habits, and collecting behavioral data to identify and support learners at risk of underperforming.

Kaplan partnered with D2L to build a gamified proof-of-concept in the Brightspace platform, adding badges, leaderboards and points (for example, points for completing mock exams and bonuses for early exam bookings) and rolling the PoC out in under three months. Early results show 71% of learners reporting a positive impact from gamification and a clear correlation between high gamification scores and stronger final assessment marks, alongside increased learner motivation and diligence.
