Illinois Virtual School - Customer Case Study

Illinois Virtual School (IVS) is a supplemental K–12 program that partners with more than 200 Illinois schools to provide courses, credit recovery, and summer instruction. When COVID-19 forced school closures in spring 2020, demand nearly doubled—enrollments rose from about 2,800 in 2019 to over 5,450 in 2020—forcing IVS to rapidly onboard four new school partners and recruit and train additional teachers to meet a variety of school-specific requirements.

IVS worked with D2L’s Brightspace to create tailored course sections, support new grading policies, and scale professional development. Using Daylight Experience templates and tools like Quick Eval and Grade Book, IVS trained 11 new teachers in weeks, delivered customized online summer programs for thousands of students with zero downtime, and secured ongoing partnerships with districts for future remote or blended learning.
