A D2L Brightspace Case Study
HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, partnered with D2L to expand accessible, employer-aligned workforce pathways for its 17,400 students (including 8,300 in workforce and remedial programs). The college needed a flexible model that supported stackable credentials and collaboration with industry experts while addressing barriers such as hands‑on training requirements, limited student access to technology, and the sudden shift to remote learning during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
Using D2L’s Brightspace, HACC delivered competency‑based, modular microcredentials and mobile‑ready courses, integrated with enrollment and payment systems and augmented by VR/AR pilots for practical skills. The initiative doubled demand for workforce programs, exceeded enrollment targets, launched more than the targeted stackable credentials, enabled documented skill certification, and kept students and faculty engaged through the pandemic.
