A D2L Brightspace Case Study
FedEx Express, a major global express transportation company, faced a significant challenge with high employee attrition at its Memphis World Hub, where replacing each worker cost $3,500. To address this, they partnered with the University of Memphis Global and utilized the D2L Brightspace platform to develop a new educational program. The goal was to reduce turnover by offering employees a clear path to a college degree, removing common financial and logistical barriers that had previously prevented them from using the existing tuition reimbursement program.
The solution was the creation of the LiFE (Learning inspired by FedEx) program, built on the D2L Brightspace platform. This initiative featured a direct-bill tuition model with no out-of-pocket costs for employees, eliminated entrance exams, and offered a mobile-friendly, flexible curriculum. The results were highly successful, with over 3,000 FedEx Express employees enrolling in less than a year. The program not only became a powerful retention tool but also boosted recruitment, expanded to other company hubs, and successfully built a pipeline of skilled workers ready for internal promotion, demonstrating the measurable impact of the partnership with D2L.
