Enhancing Student Support and Engagement with a Transformative Accessibility Hub

Northeast Iowa Community College faced growing demand for student accommodations, but its accessibility office was under-resourced and relying on outdated processes that caused delays, inconsistent communication, and tracking challenges. To address this, NICC used D2L Brightspace to build an Accessibility Hub that centralized accommodation support and improved student engagement.

Using D2L Brightspace tools, NICC launched the hub with customized navigation, automated messaging, accessible textbook storage, and streamlined accommodation tracking. The result was a major efficiency boost: more than 12,000 personalized messages were sent to 350 students, students accessed accommodation letters over 3,000 times, and staff workload dropped significantly while support continuity improved during staffing changes.
