Dematic, a global leader in logistics and material-handling automation with thousands of employees across 25+ countries, needed a scalable way to certify and upskill its growing software engineering workforce so new hires could contribute quickly while maintaining quality. The company faced long onboarding times and heavy administrative overhead for a certification program that had only been piloted and lacked automation for global rollout.

Working with D2L, Dematic implemented the Brightspace platform and a competency-based framework of roughly 250 competencies, using automation, quizzes, rubrics and intelligent release conditions to streamline assessments and administration. The program cut onboarding from roughly 12 months to about eight weeks, gave managers clear visibility of skills for project staffing, supported rapid response during COVID-19 demand spikes, and is now being expanded across additional products and engineering disciplines.
