Comox Valley Schools Creates District-Wide Flexible Learning Opportunities

Comox Valley Schools, School District 71 serving about 11,000 students across 23 schools, wanted to expand flexible, personalized, and inclusive learning under a new strategic plan. To support blended, remote, and in-person learning, the district chose D2L Brightspace as its centralized learning management system and needed a way to roll it out across schools while improving accessibility and reducing administrative burden.

D2L Brightspace implemented a phased rollout starting with the district’s online school and then expanding to brick-and-mortar schools with LMS mentors, sandbox spaces, and staff support. The platform’s accessibility tools, Creator+, Class Progress, Parent and Guardian features, and Intelligent Agents helped improve student support, content design, and administrative efficiency; the district reported stronger teacher adoption, better support for diverse learners, and more flexible learning options, including easier access to courses, visual assessment tools, and streamlined enrollment processes.
