A D2L Brightspace Case Study
The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) prepares aspiring lawyers in Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan through its Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP), which teaches the practical, professional and communication skills law school often misses. When COVID‑19 closed in‑person training, CPLED needed to quickly convert its blended PREP delivery to a fully online format while keeping students on track for Bar admission and onboarding hundreds of assessors and students.
CPLED extended its use of D2L’s Brightspace—working with D2L’s Learning & Creative Services—to redevelop course content, launch an eight‑week Legal Research and Writing course, and onboard over 1,400 users. The online program preserved student progress during the pandemic, introduced varied formats (quizzes, video tutorials, virtual classrooms, written assessments), and enabled continuous improvement through platform surveys, positioning CPLED for ongoing innovation in legal education.
