Building Financial Literacy and Life Skills for Vulnerable Youth

Life Literacy Education, a nonprofit serving young adults and system-involved youth, wanted to expand access to its financial literacy, life skills, and career readiness curriculum while reducing barriers to participation. To do that, Life Literacy Education turned to D2L Brightspace to move its program from in-person instruction to a fully online model.

Working with D2L Brightspace, Life Literacy Education built an eight-week asynchronous course using tools like assignments, rubrics, awards, and discussions to boost engagement and support learner progress. The results included steady growth without adding headcount, an 80% completion rate for juvenile court learners, 95% of students reporting they knew how to build credit, 100% reporting they could create a monthly budget, and up to 40% higher satisfaction than other diversion programs.
