A D2L Brightspace Case Study
Orijin, an education-focused organization serving incarcerated and justice-impacted learners, faced major barriers to access, motivation, and career preparation in correctional facilities. Using D2L Brightspace, Orijin set out to deliver meaningful online learning through its “Inside Knowledge” courses, co-created with formerly incarcerated teachers, to better engage learners and support self-driven success.
D2L Brightspace helped Orijin build interactive courses like “The Master Plan” and “Liberation Education” with Creator+ and ready-to-use HTML templates, adding video, surveys, flip cards, and resource links to make learning more engaging. The results were strong: Orijin reached more than 20,000 learners, averaged 550 weekly course accesses, and saw students spend 33% more time on adult basic education, GED, and college-level learning when paired with motivational messaging.
