A D2L Brightspace Case Study
Blyth Academy Online, part of Canada’s Blyth Academy network, serves over 7,000 K–12 learners and faced rapidly growing demand for online courses—accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The school needed to scale course offerings while maintaining instructional quality and reducing the administrative burden imposed by its legacy Moodle platform, which required self‑hosting and limited flexibility.
Blyth implemented D2L’s Brightspace, adding tools like Quick Eval, Class Progress, Brightspace for Parents, Performance Plus, and integrations such as Integrity Advocate and ReadSpeaker, plus dedicated professional development for staff. As a result, enrollments rose roughly 30–40% in a year, the school saw 50+ full‑time students in the first month of 2020–21, issued 20,000 Ontario credits over five years, saved significant administrative time (about 88 hours/month for faculty and an administrative load drop from ~60% to ~5% for leadership), and is on track to exceed 10,000 courses.
