Case Study: National Education Partners achieves improved community policing training and learner engagement with D2L Brightspace

Better serving communities through virtual training

National Education Partners (NEP) partnered with National University System’s Workforce Education Solutions in late 2020 to rework Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) courses for community policing into a hybrid virtual format. The challenge was to create an engaging, real-world–applicable program for learners—many new to learning management systems—that provided buy-in, time to digest difficult topics, and low-stakes practice opportunities beyond traditional POST training models.

NEP used D2L Brightspace to deliver immersive, scenario‑based asynchronous modules (Articulate Storyline/Rise), integrated Kaltura videos, and a synchronous POST‑facilitated session, supplemented by personalization, release conditions, Intelligent Agents, and Class Progress tracking. The result: a highly interactive course for ~260 learners that participants rated as an improvement over other POST offerings, reporting increased understanding, skills, and ability to better serve their communities.
