A D2L Brightspace Case Study
Algonquin College, a large Canadian institution serving about 40,000 students and 1,500 faculty, set out to become a fully digital college but faced a fragmented online ecosystem—maintaining six separate LMS instances that made the student experience unreliable, disjointed, and hard to manage. The college needed to consolidate its online learning across roughly 35,000 course sites and improve usability, accessibility, and student engagement.
After a thorough RFP process Algonquin selected D2L’s Brightspace and, with D2L’s support, migrated all 35,000 course sites within six months, trained 1,500 faculty, and retired the legacy systems. The move reduced IT complexity and costs, increased student and faculty satisfaction, accelerated adoption (4,000 students completed training early on), and established programs like student ambassadors and ongoing best-practice collaboration to continuously improve the platform.
