Advancing Faculty Expertise Through Instructional Continuity

Xavier University of Louisiana faced a major challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic: many faculty members were still unfamiliar with D2L Brightspace, and the university needed to train more than 200 instructors quickly for remote teaching continuity. With limited staff and budget, the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Faculty Development turned to D2L Brightspace to help support faculty onboarding and improve instructional readiness.

D2L Brightspace helped Xavier launch #KeepTeachingXULA, #LearnEverywhereXULA (LEX), and later LEX Advanced, blending workshops, self-paced modules, badges, and certification to build lasting Brightspace proficiency. The results were strong: 96% course completion for LEX, 93% of post-LEX courses aligned with Quality Matters standards, 94% of learners rated workshops good or outstanding, and 205 LEX Advanced badges had been awarded, showing D2L Brightspace enabled scalable, sustainable faculty development without adding staff or budget.
