How Extend maximized efficiency through Cypress Component Testing

Extend, a leading product and shipping protection platform with an 80-person engineering organization (including 7 DevX engineers), faced slow, brittle component testing—previously relying on Enzyme and React Testing Library that required extensive mocking of Redux, routers and hooks. Seeking better developer experience and test coverage, Extend piloted Cypress Component Testing to solve the limitations of their prior tooling and accelerate front‑end development.

Using Cypress CT with custom mounts, network‑level mocking (Cypress intercept), and Vite support, Extend simplified test setup and made tests more stable and observable in a real browser. The shift cut component test code to about half–a third of prior size, produced over a thousand component tests in the pilot, and delivered CI feedback in under 10 minutes via Cypress Cloud parallelization; Extend now runs roughly 3 million Cypress E2E tests and 1 million Cypress component tests per year and moves from PR to production in under an hour.
