How MarkMagic Helps Union Provide Member Benefits

Bricklayers Fringe Benefit Funds, run by Eleanor Santos, administers pensions, annuities, health insurance and other fringe benefits for a construction workers union and faced the challenge of producing large volumes of mixed-output member communications — including more than 5,000 form letters with plastic health-plan membership cards — while replacing an outdated OfficeVision/400 process and a fragile patchwork of PC-based merges. To meet these needs they turned to CYBRA Corporation’s MarkMagic (MarkMagic Enterprise Edition) for System i-based card, label and forms printing.

CYBRA Corporation implemented MarkMagic’s SM@RT Message feature and integrated it with the Fund’s Financial Management System and System i database so documents and plastic ID cards are generated automatically by member book number or social security number. Using MarkMagic with Zebra plastic-card, Zebra thermal and HP laser printers, the Fund now produces plastic medical ID cards, barcoded file jackets, MICR checks, registration tickets and laser statements, handling 300+ printer types and eliminating error-prone manual processes — including reliably generating the 5,000+ letter/mailings with attached membership cards.
