KU Leuven - Customer Case Study

KU Leuven, Belgium’s largest university, needed a more flexible and scalable identity and access management approach to support a complex environment of students, staff, and partner colleges. Its home-grown Oracle-based system was limiting integration, scalability, and resilience, especially as the university managed large annual turnover and increasingly needed to streamline access across organizations. Vendor CyberRes, using NetIQ Identity Manager, was brought in to help modernize this critical infrastructure.

CyberRes implemented NetIQ Identity Manager to automate account provisioning and deprovisioning, apply business rules in real time, and provide seamless single sign-on across up to 20 accounts and services. The solution integrated with SAP, AD, and LDAP to support instant access for new students and staff, while also giving decentralized teams fine-grained control over rights with strong auditability. As a result, KU Leuven can now support more than 120,000 students and staff with a relatively small IT team, improve user experience, and respond quickly to changes such as the shift to online learning during COVID-19.
