ProMetronics labels 100,000 asbestos fibers with CVAT

ProMetronics GmbH, a German industrial AI company, faced the challenge of automating the highly repetitive and error-prone manual detection of microscopic asbestos fibers in scanning electron microscope images for compliance testing labs across Europe. To build their detection pipeline, they turned to the annotation vendor CVAT and implemented CVAT Online.

The solution involved integrating CVAT Online via its API to serve as the annotation backbone of the ProMetronics platform, enabling automated image push, label retrieval, and real-time task monitoring. This implementation by CVAT resulted in a production-ready AI model, with approximately 100,000 fibers annotated. The impact was an automated, scalable pipeline that generates compliance-ready reports, which is now deployed into customer labs and is targeting a market of roughly 300 accredited labs across Europe.
