Greenville County Schools saves nearly $6M a year with Current

Greenville County Schools, the 44th largest school district in the U.S., faced the challenge of reducing its utility costs, its second-highest expense. The district's Energy Management Department sought to retrofit lighting across many of its 101 facilities with LED fixtures, requiring products that met strict performance, installation, and longevity standards. They engaged vendor Current and its portfolio of specialized lighting brands to address this challenge.

The solution involved Current providing a wide range of LED products from its brands, including Columbia Lighting, Alera, Prescolite, Litecontrol, and KIM Lighting, for applications from classrooms to gymnasiums to parking lots. The performance of the LEDs exceeded expectations. Once the retrofit of 70 schools is complete, the district expects to increase its annual energy cost avoidance, which already stands at nearly $6 million, while also saving on future maintenance and improving aesthetics for students and staff.
