UMass Memorial Health launches Hospital at Home in less than six months with Current Health

UMass Memorial Health Care faced the challenge of operating at or near capacity with the fewest hospital beds per capita in Massachusetts. To expand its ability to serve its large Medicaid population and provide more flexible inpatient capacity, it sought to scale acute care outside of traditional facilities. The vendor Current Health provided its platform and technology to help build a new Hospital at Home program.

The solution implemented using Current Health's clinical infrastructure included tablets and a Home Hub that required only a standard electrical outlet, enabling the delivery of safe acute care in almost any home, including those without internet access. This technology was crucial in focusing on patient equity, allowing UMass to extend care to underserved and low-income patients. The program successfully functions as an inpatient medical/surgical floor in the home, adhering to all hospital and CMS quality requirements.
