EPFL Builds a Reliable and Scalable Data Center with Cumulus Linux

École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) needed an agile, reliable data center network that could scale economically while leveraging existing staff skills and home‑grown tools. Their priorities were choice and flexibility, operational consistency, and the ability to manage network switches with the same tooling and workflows used for servers.

EPFL deployed Cumulus Linux on Dell hardware, using validated design guides to accelerate deployment and enable server‑style management of switches. The solution delivered economical scalability, strong stability and availability, and positive experiences with training, support and documentation.
