A Cummins Case Study

Preview of the Colnago 45 Case Study

Yacht Class Working Boats

Colnago 45, a Croatian boatbuilder serving the growing Adriatic tourism market, needed reliable propulsion for its high-end 12- to 14-meter day boats that carry up to 12 passengers plus crew. The challenge was to deliver yacht-quality speed, comfort, and performance for commercial charter operations while allowing customers to choose configurations that fit different operating conditions.

Cummins supplied the engines for Colnago’s boats, using either a single Cummins QSB 6.7 rated at 480 hp or twin Cummins QSB 6.7 engines rated at 425 hp each, paired with ZF280 marine gears. This solution gave the boats cruising speeds of 24 knots with the single-engine setup and 34 knots with the twin-engine setup at full load, helping Colnago deliver 40 boats over the past ten years with seven more on order for 2018.
