A Cummins Case Study
Wuxi Ship Yard Co., Ltd., working on a 26.5-meter Z-drive tug for Peruvian owner Trabajos Maritimos S.A., needed a reliable propulsion and onboard power package for a modern docking tug built for towing and harbor operations. Cummins supplied the marine engines and gensets used in the vessel, including its QSK60 propulsion engines and auxiliary power units.
Cummins solved the need with a pair of QSK60 engines, each rated at 2,200 HP at 1,800 RPM, driving HRP Model 7111 WM (P3) azimuthing drives, plus Cummins-powered gensets for ship service and harbor power. The tug was delivered in November 2009 and completed sea trials successfully, giving the owner a fully equipped tug with strong propulsion and dependable electrical generation.
