A Cummins Case Study
Weeks Marine, a marine construction and dredging company with operations across North and South America, needed to repower one of its crew boats with a modern engine that fit the gap between its existing marine engine options. The challenge was to replace aging diesel power in the 65-by-17-foot aluminum crew boat *Joseph M* while improving efficiency and performance. Cummins provided the latest X15 marine engine for the project.
Cummins installed a pair of X15 15-liter, six-cylinder marine engines rated at 575 HP at 1800 RPM, replacing the boat’s previous 450 HP diesels. The repower, completed by the Weeks Marine crew at Dulac Shipyard, delivered 21-knot sea trial performance and is expected to reduce fuel consumption by about 20%. The upgraded *Joseph M* now serves 24 passengers and supports dredging operations from Barnegat, New Jersey.
