WCT Marine & Construction - Customer Case Study

WCT Marine & Construction built a shallow-draft Yukon River salmon tender for owner R. Bodey, needing a vessel that could carry salmon totes, containers, and general cargo while operating in the shallow, changing river conditions of western Alaska. The challenge was to maximize cargo capacity without increasing draft, while also providing reliable propulsion and onboard power for deck equipment.

Cummins supplied three QSL9 marine engines for the vessel, each rated at 335 HP at 1800 RPM and paired with Twin Disc gearboxes. The engines were installed with prop tunnels to reduce draft, and one Cummins engine was fitted with a hydraulic PTO to run the crane and anchor winch. The result was a purpose-built, low-draft tender expected to deliver by spring 2017 and travel north under its own power.
