A Cummins Case Study
Waxler Transportation Co. needed reliable power for a series of new inland towboats, culminating in the M/V Helen Merrill, a 99-by-35-foot, 3,200 HP pushboat for its Secor inland transport subsidiary. Cummins supplied the marine propulsion and onboard power equipment, including KTA50 M2 diesels and Cummins Onan generator sets.
Cummins equipped each vessel with two KTA50 M2 diesels rated at 1,600 HP apiece, paired with Haley HRV Series gears, plus two 99 kW Cummins Onan generators for electrical needs. The result was a complete propulsion and power solution for the five-vessel series, enabling the Helen Merrill to enter service on her maiden voyage in January 2010 with dependable main engine and electrical performance from Cummins.
