A Cummins Case Study
Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, Washington needed a more reliable, efficient standby power solution for its campus central energy plant. The university wanted to replace an old, inefficient steam plant while improving safety, reliability, fuel efficiency, energy conservation, and environmental performance. Cummins was selected to help meet these requirements with standby power generation equipment and controls.
Cummins installed two 1100 kW GQMA lean-burn natural gas generator sets and one 1750 kW diesel generator set, all managed by PowerCommand® controls and integrated with remote monitoring and the campus power monitoring system. The solution delivered 100% of the emergency power needed for the plant, improved protection against utility failures and storm outages, and supported WSU’s goals for reliability and lower operating costs.
