VOSTA LMG, in joint venture with Bangladesh Karnafuly Shipyard, needed reliable propulsion and auxiliary power for two large CSD650 cutter suction dredges built for the Bangladesh Water Development Board. The dredges had to operate in shallow-water, bridge-limited waterways, so the project required compact, high-output marine engines and supporting systems from Cummins.

Cummins supplied a QSK60-M HPI engine for each dredge pump, a KTA50-D(M1) for the hydraulic systems, and a 6B-CP80-DM-powered generator for auxiliary power. The completed 60-meter dredges were delivered in 2012 and can work to depths of 18 meters while maintaining an air draft of only seven meters, demonstrating that Cummins helped enable efficient delivery of complex dredging vessels for Bangladesh’s inland and coastal waterway needs.
