Case Study: VIVACOM achieves reliable mountain-top standby power with Cummins generator sets

Vivacom, Bulgaria’s leading telecoms operator, needed reliable standby power for remote mountain-top base stations that support telecom, TV, and Internet services. The sites, run by Vivacom’s NURTS division, are located 1,000–1,800 meters above sea level and can be difficult to access, especially in winter, making fast repairs and uninterrupted operation a major challenge. Cummins Power Generation supplied five C70 D5 generator sets and one C110 D5 for the project.

Cummins Power Generation, through distributor IPO, installed the six generator sets with remote monitoring via iWatch100 and external fuel tanks to extend runtime. The solution provided unattended, automatically controlled backup power for the remote sites, helping Vivacom keep its networks operational even during long mains outages and harsh weather. The result was a modern, state-of-the-art standby power system with around 50 kW per unit supporting reliable service continuity across the network.
