Vassilikos Power Plant - Customer Case Study

Vassilikos Power Plant in Cyprus faced an urgent crisis after an explosion at the Mari naval base severely damaged the island’s main power station, cutting around 50% of generation capacity and creating immediate demand for both prime and standby power. Cummins responded through its distributor Uniplant with generator sets from the sub-400 kVA range, along with additional sub-550 kVA and 8–38 kVA Compact units, to help keep the grid running and support critical operations.

Cummins and Uniplant rapidly delivered, installed, and supported 33 generator sets within the first 48 hours, working around the clock to meet urgent demand and respond to hundreds of requests for quotes and advice. At Vassilikos Power Station, two Cummins C1100 D5 sets were synchronized with the grid to provide backup for essential auxiliary consumers, while other units covered short-term generation shortfalls and remained as standby for the future.
