UCEM Chimborazo’s Emergency Power, Expertly Delivered By Cummins

UCEM Chimborazo, the second-largest cement plant in Ecuador, needed a reliable emergency power solution for its new clinker line at its high-altitude site in Riobamba. To improve resilience and connect with its existing hydroelectric plant, UCEM turned to Cummins for a 1 x 1250DQGAE (1250 kVA) generator set with a PowerCommand Cloud 3.3 Controller and soundproof container.

Cummins delivered an integrated backup power system designed for the plant’s harsh conditions more than 3,000 meters above sea level. The solution included an 82 dB(A) soundproof enclosure, motorized louvers for ventilation, and dust filters to protect the equipment, helping UCEM secure dependable emergency power for critical loads and support uninterrupted cement production of around 1.6 million tonnes per year.
