A Cummins Case Study
Transdorada Transportes LTDA, a towboat operator on Brazil’s Amazon River, needed reliable power for its pushboat fleet moving barges between Belém and Manaus. The company turned to Cummins and its KTA19-M3 marine engines for its new 19.5-meter pushboats.
Cummins supplied the engines through distributor DCML Norte for three new vessels: two twin-engine 1,200 HP boats and one single-engine 600 HP boat, all built by Estaleiro Rio Maguari. The result is a fleet capable of pushing six to nine barges per trip on the larger boats and four barges on the smaller vessel, with round trips of about five days, improving Transdorada Transportes LTDA’s cargo-handling capacity on the Amazon River.
