A Cummins Case Study
The Boat Company, an Alaska-based eco-cruise operator, needed to repower its historic 145-foot vessel, the M/V LISERON, after one of its aging Cleveland diesel engines failed and parts became increasingly difficult to source. The company turned to Cummins for replacement marine engines that could provide reliable performance while supporting continued operations in Southeast Alaska.
Cummins supplied a pair of electronically controlled QSK19 six-cylinder diesel engines, along with new Twin Disc gears, shaft brakes, and updated engine monitoring and steering controls. The repower reduced engine-room weight dramatically, requiring 15,000 pounds of ballast to replace the removed mass, and the vessel successfully passed its Coast Guard incline test and was cleared for service, helping The Boat Company return the LISERON to duty with improved reliability and modern controls.
