Tetra Pak India - Customer Case Study

Tetra Pak India, the world’s largest producer of aseptic carton packaging, needed reliable power for its new manufacturing plant in Chakan Industrial Area, Pune, where grid quality and availability were a concern. Because its packaging process is highly sensitive to voltage and frequency fluctuations, the company required a dependable captive power solution. Cummins provided the generator set and power management technology for the project.

Cummins ESB India implemented a turnkey LNG-based combined heat and power system featuring three 2,000 kWe, 11 kV QSV 91 generator sets operating in parallel with PowerCommand® PCC 3.3 control, plus heat recovery vapor absorption machines. The first-of-its-kind setup in India also included on-site LNG regassification and was completed on schedule for Tetra Pak’s 12.12.12 deadline. The plant now runs 24/7 except for scheduled maintenance, with the generators operating at close to 90% of rated capacity in island mode.
