A Cummins Case Study
Tebma Shipyards Ltd, working for the Indian Navy, needed a dredger capable of precise deepening work in docks, ports, rivers, and other restricted areas. The vessel, Dredger-1, was built around marine propulsion and dredging equipment, including Cummins engines and a Cummins-855-powered crane supplied by Titagarh Wagons.
Cummins provided twin KTA38-M marine engines, each producing 1,000 HP at 1,800 RPM, to power the dredger, while the crane handled dredging up to 10 meters deep with a 3-cubic-meter grab bucket and a 300-cubic-meter hopper for spoil handling. The solution completed its one-year warranty review successfully, and Dredger-1 returned to service with the Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, demonstrating reliable performance in operational use.
