A Cummins Case Study
S.P. Inter Marine Co. Ltd, a long-established Thai trucking, warehousing, cargo transfer, and barging company, needed to expand its cargo-handling capacity to support growing agricultural and aggregate shipments. To keep freight moving efficiently between inland facilities, river barges, and ships at anchor, the company relied on Cummins-powered propulsion and marine equipment, including 600-HP KTA-19 engines.
Cummins helped S.P. Inter Marine Co. Ltd expand its lightering and crane-barge operations with dependable power for tugboats and a new floating crane barge. The latest 70-by-22-by-6-meter barge was fitted with three 35-ton cranes and three air-cooled Cummins KTA38-powered generator sets to run the cranes’ electric motors, enabling faster and more efficient ship-to-barge and barge-to-ship cargo transfers. The result was increased handling capacity and lower transport costs compared with dock-based transfer by truck or train.
