A Cummins Case Study
Navios South American Logistics Inc., a leader in river transportation on the Paraguay-Parana Inland Water Ways, needed to repower its push boat Tomas Romero Pereira to improve performance and reliability. The project involved upgrading the vessel’s propulsion and onboard power systems, with Cummins marine engines and generators used in the modernization.
Cummins replaced the boat’s three Yanmar mains and three auxiliaries with three Cummins KTA19 M3 engines totaling 1,590 HP, paired with Twin Disc gears and ducted propellers, and added two Cummins 6C CP-powered generator sets producing 136 kW each. The updated vessel completed successful sea trials in September 2012, demonstrating a fully repowered push boat with improved marine power and electrical capability.
