Case Study: ASL Shipyard builds a highly redundant diving support vessel with Cummins marine power

A Cummins Case Study

Preview of the ASL Shipyard Case Study

Singapore’s ASL Builds Big and Complex

ASL Shipyard in Singapore needed a highly flexible, redundant power setup for the 90-by-22-meter Mermaid Asiana diving support vessel, which had to safely support saturation diving, DP2 station-keeping, ROV operations, and extensive onboard accommodation and crane loads. The vessel’s mission required dependable power and positioning performance even in demanding offshore conditions, making diesel-electric technology and marine generators essential.

Cummins supplied the vessel’s main power and emergency systems, including six QSK60-DM generator sets producing 1,600 kW each into the main bus and an emergency KTA38-DM genset. With this arrangement, Mermaid Asiana could meet all electrical demands with only five generators online while keeping one in standby, providing the redundancy and operational reliability ASL Shipyard needed.
