A Cummins Case Study
Shin Yang Shipping Corporation, part of the Shin Yang Group in Malaysia, needed reliable propulsion and auxiliary power for a new anchor handling tug added to its fleet in 2010. To support the vessel’s demanding offshore duties, the company chose Cummins marine engines for the Danum 119 (also referenced as Danem 19), along with fire-fighting and dispersant-spraying capabilities.
Cummins supplied a pair of QSK60-M main diesel engines, each rated at 1641 kW (2200 HP), plus two QSM355 265 kW auxiliary diesels. This setup gave the 49.96-meter vessel strong towing and anchor-handling performance, including a 54.96-tonne bollard pull, 12-knot cruising speed, and high-capacity winches and deck equipment, helping Shin Yang Shipping Corporation expand its fleet with a versatile and capable workboat.
