A Cummins Case Study
Rushan City Shipbuilding needed a propulsion solution for a newly launched Chinese Fisheries Department patrol vessel that could deliver strong performance from a relatively compact marine platform. To meet the requirement, they chose Cummins QSK60 main engines along with Cummins 855-powered generators for the vessel’s electrical needs.
Cummins supplied a twin-engine, single-propeller configuration: two QSK60 engines, each producing 2,000 HP at 1,800 RPM, feeding a large marine gearbox that combines 4,000 HP and drives one 2.85-meter controllable pitch propeller. The result was a patrol vessel capable of speeds up to 18 knots, with dependable onboard power for up to 30 crew and support craft operations.
