A Cummins Case Study
Robert Allan Ltd needed a reliable, efficient docking tug design for demanding operations on the Amazon River system, including work at ports around Manaus and Itacoatiara. The vessel had to combine strong maneuverability, adequate fuel and water capacity, and accommodation for a small crew while operating in a challenging inland-waterway environment.
Cummins supplied a pair of Tier 2 QSK38-M main engines for the new RAmparts25 tug, with each engine delivering 1400 HP at 1800 RPM to Rolls-Royce US155 azimuth drives. The result was a 25-meter docking tug with robust propulsion and handling capability for port operations on the Amazon, along with 55,000 litres of fuel capacity, 15,000 litres of water capacity, and accommodation for up to eight crew members.
