Riverside Sewage Treatment Works - Customer Case Study

Riverside Sewage Treatment Works in London, operated by Thames Water Utilities Ltd., needed a cogeneration solution for a sludge digestion and thermal hydrolysis project that could supply reliable power and heat for wastewater treatment processes. Cummins, working through Broadcrown, provided the engine platform for the project, using Cummins QSV91 lean-burn gas engines.

Cummins helped deliver three CHP units equipped with QSV91 engines and STAMFORD alternators, using biogas to generate the site’s required 4 MWe of continuous power while also recovering heat for process steam. The result was an efficient, cost-effective cogeneration system with reduced NOx emissions, integrated fire protection and heat recovery, and a compact design that fit the plant’s restricted space.
